question by atula

atula asked 06/29/2009:

There is this person I worked with briefly in the past, but with whom I do not wish to work now. NBut hte thing is he keeps mailing me with his problems and how he can solve them and asking me for my advice about his business. Actually I had helped him once when he was in a mess with his business problem but now he just thinks I am his agony aunt. What should I do. How should I tell him to stop bothering me…after all it is his work and I cannot run it.

Tell him as simply as possible that you helped him once because you would do that for anyone, but that you cant keep listening to his problems because it is not helpful for either of you. Leave it at that, then if keeps mailing you, ignore it, he needs to deal with his own troubles.

stop answering his emails Atula.. and further, block them so you never see them. Best way to get rid.

if you can’t handle it, start breaking the habit. when ever he comes to you or mails you mail him back refering him to someone else. you can even tell him, flat out, that it’s not alright. even though it is a good thing to help people it can get a bit over whelming and if you can’t handle it, tell him, he’s a big boy isn’t he?

ignore his messages, he will get the hint sooner or later
