question by Blackbird

Blackbird asked 02/05/2010:

My Mom just yelled at me tonight because she found out I was drinking in a party; which could get me in trouble except for the fact that I am 18, and where I live you can drink at that age. Who’s right?

i don’t think either of you are wrong. you may be old enough but your mum will still worry even 10 years from now. maybe there is more to your mums yelling than you having 2 drinks. you need to sit down and talk to her i think. when did u turn 18 if you don’t mind me asking. your mum also probably thinks you shouldn’t drink untill your older just because the laws say you can your mum may think different.

FMEE: It was some sort of birthday party, and I was invited. Someone else drove, and it was at night. It was Saturday, on one of the few weekends I go out. She already knew I was going to that party. And I left in a really good condition, because I really do not drink that much—I’m just not really into it. I actually stopped after my second beer because I thought about her.

FMEE answered:

Sorry, I need a little more information before you get a verdict out of me. First how did you get to the party, you drive or did someone else? Because you have to leave some how? Second was the party during the day when you should have been doing something else? Third did you say you were going to the party or tell her you were going somewhere else? Lastly in what condition did you leave the party? I know it is a lot to think about but after all you are 18 and indestructible.

emptythoughts answered:

no one is. it was a party, what’s a party without booze?but 18, just a new young adult. a little too excited?or she’s being OA..she’d know that there’d be drinks, so if she didnt want you to then whyd she allow you to go at all?

Lovesux2013 answered:

You are of course. If it’s legal then there’s nothing wrong with it. And you are technically and legaly an adult so u can make your own decisions.

Grey Cloud answered:

yep, you’re 18 and legal but it’s her house and while you live with her you need to respect her rules. Now when you move out and have your own place and pay your own bills you get to make the rules. see how it works?
