As an American citizen, and a HIGHLY concerned one: I believe that Guantanamo Bay Prison is currently still open and operational. Barack Obama has promised to close it, and end its illegal and unethical abuses. He even signed a bill declaring that it must be closed by a deadline. Off the top of my head I cannot remember what the deadline is. The problem is that we need a different location, within the US, to place the prisoners. Having them located within the US will allow for greater oversight of prison activity. Getting narrow-minded and self-absorbed Americans to see the logic of this is another matter. I know they wanted to build the replacement prison in my state, which I whole-heartedly supported, but of course the bigots and fearmongers threw an unholy fit about it.
Answers like those previously given make me ashamed of my fellow citizens, and of humanity as a whole.
